   Hi - I'm getting ready to buy Affinity and in the manual it says to either use DWT or SSI for your static areas of the page before copying the page to be used for the site.

   I remember Al telling me that Libraries weren't the way to go in the past but I can't remember why.

   Is there a reason not to use libraries? I've used SSI before but I don't like that the content isn't visable when I look at the site locally in my browser. I've never used the Dreamweaver Templates. Maybe it's time I figure it out?

   Better to use templates, if need be you can use libraries in templates. Using templates is very easy and wont take long to figure out.

   Just use Affinity to make the page design you want after customizing it to your satisfaction. Then save it as a template, add editable areas to the template, save it again. Then you can just make child pages from the template and paste in the content save the page with appropriate file name (don't for get to give the page a title or it will have same name as template). And you are good to go.

   For more info check the DW PDF manual which has a whole section on it. In the CS6 manual it starts at page 445.

   Thanks, VL. I understand that templates are for overall structure and libraries are for specific blocks on the page, but I was thinking Al said there was a specific reason not to sue libraries. I'll check out the manual!

   they will give you some ideas on the subject. I have also heard mostly negative things about libraries, but I still use them for a very limited purpose. If all hell broke loose and they became deprecated I would be okay as I only use them to save some repetitive work and they could be replaced by copy and pasting.

   I use Server Side Includes for lots of static areas, navigation, footer, masthead etc. The big browser advantage is they load once and are available to all, speeding up page load times.

   On the design side I like them because they simplify long or complex pages of code.

   If Al said we shouldn't I missed it. Maybe he could comment?

   She said that All was not keen on DW Libraries, not SSI.
