The name basically said it all.
I wish there would be a P7 tool where you can add all sorts of images with different sizes that can then be displayed in a mosaic either vertically or horizontally sorted. Changing the viewport would reorder in a slightly animated type.
Oh wow... would it not be great?

Hi Marceline,
True masonry grids are not possible with natural CSS. They require script. That's one problem. The other is that a lot of accessibility folks frown on masonry grids because it defies the natural way that the human eye tracks when reading. So, it's a tough one. I'm fairly normal, but I have a hard time tracking Microsoft's default news feed in Edge, which is a lovely masonry grid... it's just very hard for me to scan. All that said we will continue to consider it :-)

Notice the flawed bottom. Also notice what happens if you narrow your browser to phone width (2 screens of blank space above images). More important than that, is that there will be a large number of people who find it difficult to track the images from left to right, as the human eyes wants to do.

It is definately hard to "track" (or re-locate images). I see everyone that uses this layout and does online tutorials referencing their website usually scroll up and down several times trying to locate one of their own examples. It also looks like the new Luminar catalog interface launching this month uses this method as well and I just watched a pre-release review and the author kept scrolling past the photo he was searching for. Reminds me of Pinterest which is a mess. It looks good at a glance, but is really more like throwing mud on a wall as far as useability IMO.

Yes, this is exactly what I mean. I understand the reply from Al and the challenges.
I think the layout is just beautiful. Not everything needs to be following the rule of 'logic and order'. A website also needs to look 'tasty'.
It is the atmosphere the gallery layout produces that is awesome.
Well, in the end it is about taste. Or perhaps a 'alpha versus beta' thinking?
Needless to say, I would be thrilled when something like this would be produced by ProjectSeven as their products are just the best. I use them for 17 years now and one you know a few products, you understand them all. It has taught me the most.

Extend Studio has Masonry Gallery Pro extension that I have been using on several sites with good success (also includes an admin for clients to upload their own images/galleries). Sadly got the below email that Extend Studio is no longer supporting their extensions or developing new ones, but you can download all of them for free. This is an old thread, but just wanted to suggest some type of P7 Mason or Mosaic extension as I have another photographer asking for something similar the Karl Taylor site example I referenced above. For whatever reason, quite a few photographers choose that SquareSpace template.
I was also using the Extend Studio Infographics extension on my own site (that Savio mentioned in the previous post) which I really miss, wish P7 had an alternative!

I still use the Extend Studios one (though wish there was an option that was more updated from PVII).
One thing I really like about the Extend Studios one is that it also has a simple client admin interface (doesn't use a MySQL database).
I know this has been discussed before, but it would be really helpful to have an integrated simple client interface from PVII for things like the galleries. It doesn't need to connect into a MySQLi database (though have no problem if it did), but it would add even more value to the tool and make it easier for us to pass onto client to allow them to update their pics.
Savio: I came up with something that may work for you. I set the photos up using a section for horizontal and then another section for vertical. These are fed from database using a field to enter either v for vertical or h for horizontal. This client uses categories for what type of photo it is, ie, animals, plants etc. I added a caption field also. Client can upload their photos and enter captions.

All the photos get uploaded to the same folder which has contents listed and is sortable by date, size etc. for easy reference. Works great. I don't recall where I picked up the DisplayDirectoryContents package but if you contact me off forum, I'll send it to you.

FYI - I tried downloading Extend Studio Infographics files after they made them downloadable (I previously had their paid extension), but I could never get them to install (at least on a Mac).
